“Ever Wus” basically never was in the eyes of Texas.

The second track on Bob Cummins Jr.’s experimental pop debut Shakewelle was released in the darkest summer months of 2020. Residing in Austin, young, still learning the city’s promotional terrain, and navigating the pandemic with the rest of the world, Bob resigned to let Shakewelle slip into the digital void. He only released two singles to the attention of close friends and family. Under normal circumstances, “Ever Wus" would have been Bob's next single. Now, it's practically his first.

Pounding with heavy electro-kick drum and snapping with tiny Nintendo-inspired snare drum, “Ever Wus” is a quirky yet somber track that sets a kaleidoscopic stage for Cummins’ classic sense of melody.  His 70’s songwriter sensibilities meet modern touches like pitch-shifted vocals and synthetic textures to make the aural equivalent of floral patterns on melting polyester. 

The release of “Ever Wus” also serves as a debut for Portland-based Big Secret Records, founded by former DFW audio engineer and record producer Andrew Jones. After working closely on other projects together, Jones founded Big Secret Records to re-release Cummins’ early work.

The remastered “Ever Wus” will be released October 7 exclusively on 7” clear vinyl with an unreleased Shakewelle track on the b-side. Each record sleeve features custom made collage art made and applied by Bob himself.
